PROCESS
In the early years, the quarry extraction methods were based on the use of dynamite, which produced a large explosion accompanied by huge clouds of dust. This system enabled them to remove large amounts of marble, though the risk of damaging the material was high. Later the helical wire method was introduced the cut the material.
Using this technique the marble blocks were cut directly from the mountain, not broken. The helical wire has since been replaced by diamond wire, which represents the most recent innovation in the field of cutting tools capable of ensuring a better surface finish, with the absence of vibration, less noise, improved accuracy and cutting speed that result in an overall reduction in costs (energy, water and labour).
The cylinder banks, weighing about 700 TON, are turned on to ground beds to be reduced in volume. For the most part this process is carried out by two diamond wire systems, which undertake the squaring of the blocks.
